for McHenry Count Board District 3 Menu Home Biography Contact Us Volunteer ON THE RECORD Donate Focusing on what Counts Local government plays a vital role in making McHenry County such a great place to live. Having served 14 years as president of School District 47’s board, Diane understands the impact hard-working, dedicated leaders make in providing cost-effective, quality services that residents deserve. Diane is a leader that places serving the community above politics. She will listen to all sides, do her homework, and speak out for what is fair and equitable. EXPEREINCE AND DEDICATION COUNTS Quality education and communities with that small town feel attracted Diane and her family to McHenry County 29 years ago. Raising three children in Crystal Lake with her late husband, Diane ran for School District #47’s Board in 1989 to help manage the effect of rampant growth on local education. Elected to the Board five times, Diane emerged as a local leader not only serving as Board President for 14 years but also as President of the McHenry County Education to Career Consortium and the President of the Mediation Council of Illinois. Diane’s experience as a leader with integrity counts. Over her 27 years as a local leader Diane has gained training and experience in group facilitation, interest based bargaining, negotiation, and group collaboration which make her a valuable addition to any board. In addition, her decade of experience as a professional family mediator makes her especially suited for problem solving and conflict resolution. She knows what it means to be an accountable representative and effective decision-maker. Diane’s personal, professional, and community experience have gained her an understanding of what counts in McHenry County. FISCALLY RESPONSBILITY COUNTS As a small business owner and Crystal Lake Chamber member since 2006, Diane is very aware of how our county has suffered during the economic downturn. McHenry County residents are frustrated with local property taxes. Fighting for property tax relief counts. Property tax levies fall heavily upon home owners. Attracting new business to McHenry County through infrastructure improvements and other initiatives will diversify our county’s property tax base. Businesses have plenty of choice when it comes to location. Ease of transportation and the availability of a skilled work force are enticing assets. Action to improve our roads is needed. Collaboration with our educational institutions to build an attractive local skilled workforce is needed. New businesses will expand our property tax base and lessen the load on McHenry County families. Business growth also can help generate sales taxes revenue and create new jobs. ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY COUNTS Especially in this economic environment county board accountability and transparency counts. Cutting the board’s bottom line would save taxpayer money. Our part-time county board members have the option of full health care benefits which costs the taxpayers more than $250,000 annually. And with 4 board members in each of the county’s 6 districts the county pays board members about $570,000 annually. Eliminating health benefits and right-sizing the county board would not only spend fewer tax dollars but allow citizens to hold their elected representatives more directly accountable. Diane promises once elected to the board she will not take advantage of pension or health benefits. LEADERSHIP WITH INTEGRITY COUNTS Many in our county struggle. As a family mediator specializing in divorce, a court appointed special advocate (CASA of McHenry County) for abused and neglected children, and a Charter Member of MCC’s Education to Empowerment initiative granting scholarships to local women, Diane has witnessed the severe challenges faced by county residents. Our county deserves cost-effective, quality services. Proposed cuts to funding county services, especially those provided to our most vulnerable citizens, should be carefully weighed. Elimination of funds from the voter approved levy for the Valley Hi Nursing Home is being proposed. The Valley Hi levy was enacted by voters who valued this county nursing home serving our poorest seniors and citizens with disabilities, including our veterans. In a surprise vote in November, the board stripped $3,000,000 from Valley Hi as a “tax cut”. If the 24 member board extends this “abatement” of funds, Valley Hi will no longer receive levied monies the taxpayers thought so important. Any decision to undo the will of the voters should take place only after citizen input, a detailed analysis of any impact on Valley Hi’s solvency, and consideration of Valley Hi’s ability to serve its residents. The long term effect of proposed cuts to funding county services must be carefully weighed by those who understand the need for cost-effective, quality services. Advocating for McHenry County families, seniors, and veterans counts. Copyright ? 2017 · All Rights Reserved · Theme: Natural Lite by Organic Themes · RSS Feed · Log in
